Museum Director of the Nomad Museum
It would be anachronistic to create fix spaces to represent New Nomadism, Migration or Mobility. It is much more in the spirit of the time, in which the only bench mark of the New Nomad is his email adress, to offer spaces that are accessible from anywhere to anyone and that can be designed and changed by everybody equally. The space we offer is at the same time a service for all nomads, who on their ways carry items with them that make them feel home or are necessary tools or gadgets to lead a nomad life. One charachteristic of nomad lifestyle is to leave things behind. Spaces as well as loved persons or items. As one has to often leave things behind, the Service for Item Conservation offers the opportunity to put them in a safe and have them accessible from everywhere. Cut out of their original context these items become meaningful storytellers of the most recent/contemporary nomad history. The visitor of the museum will get an invitation to witness some of the most personal belongings of nomad people and to complete his own picture or even identify with the person and the nomadic lifestyle.
